Little known facts about concert bands;
- At least 50% of tuba players are called "Dave"!
- Saxophones are not "brass" instruments, but some players are "brass necked"!
- A euphoniumist is a person who can play a wrong note with conviction!
- The fastest conductors practise with a copper baton on the tops of tall chimneys.
Immanuel Church December 2008
In what is becoming an annual event, the band gave a joint concert of Christmas music with the Conchord Singers in Immanuel Church, Oswaldtwistle on December 13th 2008. It was a memorable evening for both band and choir, and was thoroughly appreciated by a pleasingly large audience. The band included music from "Polar Express" and Leroy Anderson's ever popular "Christmas Festival". The evening was rounded off by joint forces with a rousing performance of "O Come all ye Faithful".
Baxenden Concert Band is especially pleased to support the work of the Multiple Sclerosis Society, particularly as one of our most established members is afflicted with MS. The annual "Cake Break" is an ever popular event despite the problems of crumbs getting into the works!
