Little known facts about concert bands;
- At least 50% of tuba players are called "Dave"!
- Saxophones are not "brass" instruments, but some players are "brass necked"!
- A euphoniumist is a person who can play a wrong note with conviction!
- The fastest conductors practise with a copper baton on the tops of tall chimneys.
Last Night of the Proms
Our second "Last Night of the Proms" style concert of the 2009 season was held at Cambridge St. Methodist Church, Accrington on June 12th. Complete with flag waving, Jerusalem, Sea Songs and Land of Hope and Glory, there were also well received solo items from Dave Price, Nick Holme and Tom Young. Also included in the programme were Suppe's "Light Cavalry", Lehar's "Merry Widow" and the Waltz No. 2 from Shostakovich's 2nd Jazz Suite.
Baxenden Concert Band is especially pleased to support the work of the Multiple Sclerosis Society, particularly as one of our most established members is afflicted with MS. The annual "Cake Break" is an ever popular event despite the problems of crumbs getting into the works!
